Dance Director: Renee Mueller

Renee Mueller began her training in ballet at the age of three and continued to study all styles of dance throughout her career as a professional dancer. She graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Choreography. While at U of M, Renee received the Earl V. Moore award as well as the Dance Department Merit scholarship.

With over 20 years of teaching experience, Renee has taught dance in the University of Michigan’s prestigious Musical Theater Department and the University’s Theater department. In addition, Renee was the founder and Artistic Director of Dance Alliance Repertory Company, an award winning youth dance company in Saline, Michigan.She was Artistic Director for Jazz Dance Theatre and the founding member of the Peter Sparling Dance Company.

Renee has been a guest teacher at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Geiger Classic Ballet Academy, Midland Dance Festival and Bonn Germany International Dance Intensive.

Carrie Couyoumjian 

Carrie Couyoumjian currently lives in Saline and is a native of Livonia, Michigan.  She began dancing at age 3 at the American Dance Academy in Garden City, Michigan.  She studied Cecchetti and Russian ballet, jazz, modern and tap.  Ms. Couyoumjian’s youth was spent participating in many competitions and conventions including NAPS, Dance Masters, Dupree Dance Expo and Starpower, and arts festivals including Michigan Youth Arts Festival. Ms. Couyoumjian was a member of Wayne State University’s Dance Company during her years of undergraduate education and concurrently taught dance and gymnastics for multiple community education programs in the Metro Detroit area.  She also has experience teaching dance to and choreographing for team-level gymnasts at Conrad’s in Farmington, Michigan and at The Gym Nest in Brighton.

 Ms. Couyoumjian’s eldest daughter is a gymnast at Gym America and her son is an avid athlete with a particular interest in soccer.  She has been married for 9 years and works full-time as a genetic counselor at the University of Michigan.  Ms. Couyoumjian is very excited to share her life-long love of dance with young dancers at the new Gym America!
